Telco Systems Introduces CloudMetro 100 – First 10GE Platform For Virtualized IT Services Across The Network

Innovative multi-purpose demarcation and aggregation platform, delivering distributed NFV to the network edge, will be debuted at the Layer123 SDN & OpenFlow World Congress

Telco Systems, the leading provider of innovative SDN & NFV and multi-service Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and MPLS edge solutions, recently announced the release to market of the newest member of its Open Metro Edge solution, CloudMetro 100, the first 10GE platform for Virtualized IT Services at the network edge.

CloudMetro 100 is the latest product in Telco Systems’ SDN/NFV Open Metro Edge (OME) solution, offering a carrier-grade platform that enables service providers to transform their networks from mere transport to full IT-enabled networks – highly orchestrated, agile and virtualized. CloudMetro 100 supports Distributed Network Functions Virtualization (Distributed NFV), enabling telecom network operators to run TelcoApps VNFs to provide multi-services in addition to connectivity services.

Accelerating demand for bandwidth is already pushing NFV toward the next modernization wave that will satisfy bandwidth-hungry NFV applications over high-capacity Ethernet. 10GE-capable CloudMetro 100 meets the approaching capacity challenge while it supports all of the latest transport technologies including Carrier Ethernet 2.0, IP/MPLS and OpenFlow. In addition, it provides many OAM, resiliency and HQoS capabilities as well as NETCONF and YANG for next-generation, network management. To implement Distributed NFV, CloudMetro 100 combines a switch and integrated Intel x86 CPU as a hosting processor. CloudMetro 100’s hosting CPU runs Telco Systems’ Virtualization Engine (TVE) infrastructure layer, enabling carrier-grade virtualization support that simplifies VNF execution and management. CloudMetro 100 utilizes Intel’s VT-X virtualization technology to optimize virtualization performance.

“Embedding Intel processors at the network edge can significantly optimize the virtualization of networking functions (VNFs) and will move the vendor-centric telecom network into the vendor-agnostic, lower cost, and highly intelligent world of Software-Defined Networking,” stated Renu Navale, Ecosystem Strategy Manager at Intel. “Telco Systems’ CloudMetro 100 open, multi-purpose platform fits well into Intel’s NFV vision and is an innovative and important part of the Intel Network Builders Program.”

“NFV and SDN fever is gripping the telecom world and the effects of redesigning networks to make greater use of virtualization and programmable control-plane techniques look set to be felt throughout network operators' organizations,” explained Simon Sherrington, analyst at Heavy Reading Insider. “There is too much money involved and the possibilities for new technology approaches are too compelling. The options newly available to network operators and service providers promise to reduce CAPEX, drive down ongoing OPEX, speed time to market and enable them to launch new services without replacing old equipment. Telco Systems is among the vendors that are well positioned to help telecommunications service providers adopt SDN and NFV technologies and enjoy their benefits.”

Telco Systems will debut CloudMetro 100 along with other Open Metro Edge products at the Layer123 SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in Dusseldorf, October 14-17, Booth #29. On Friday, October 17 at 12:30, Rami Yaron, Telco Systems’ VP of Strategy & Business Development, MEF Mobile Backhaul Co-Chair and CE 2.0 Specialist, will be MEF Seminar speaker on “The Third Network”. Also on Friday, at 14:40, Telco Systems’ Director of Strategic Product Management and Innovation, Nir Halachmi, will speak at the Congress’s MEF Seminar on “Carrier Ethernet and SDN: Practical Considerations”. Later that same day, at 16:00 PM, in the NFV Forum, Nir will take the podium again to explain “How NFV technology enables IT-aware networks”.

Interested parties who will not be attending Layer123 will have additional opportunities to experience CloudMetro 100 and other Open Metro Edge products firsthand at Broadband World Forum in Amsterdam, October 21-23, Booth #F-52, and GEN14 in Washington D.C., November 17-20, Booth #117.
