PCIA GlobalXChange: DotSurfer introduces wireless PCMCIA card to North America

Following the Korean launch through its contract with contract with Korea Telecom (KT) Freetel, N/A (Westlake Village, CA) is introducing the DotSurfer wireless PCMCIA card to North America at PCIA's GlobalXChange exposition. Laptop owners will no longer have to contend with phone jacks, special peripheral or cables to connect to the Internet. The PC card fits into the PCMCIA type II slot, and the small flexible antenna allows the user to connect to the Internet with complete mobility.

The product is compatible with all major laptops and is based on 2.5G and 3G technologies, enabling wireless data rates at 64 kb/s to 2 Mb/s. The PC card will allow laptop users limitless choices on where and when they surf the Internet, and it features wide-area PCS coverage.

Korea Telecom Freetel signed an exclusive contract with Gtran in May, and DotSurfer made its debut in two major Korean cities in July. Gtran is working toward bringing the product to North American providers

"Gtran entered the wireless market to provide global wireless carriers with an advanced solution to meet the challenges associated with wireless Internet connectivity," said Frank Lee, Gtran president and CEO. "We look forward to working with wireless carriers in North America to bring multimedia and mobility to the ‘surfing the net' experience on laptop computers and other portable handheld devices."
