PCIA GlobalXChange: Harris' Galaxy high-capacity digital microwave radio surpasses ETSI standards

Harris Corp., a digital microwave radio equipment and worldwide services supplier, announced at PCIA GlobalXChange that the 23 GHz Galaxy high-capacity (155 Mbps) radio passed independent testing that shows the equipment exceeds rigorous performance standards set by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The completion of the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) testing signaled the end of Galaxy's development process and the start of production. The first customer shipment of the Galaxy took place this month.

"The success of R&TTE testing is like the Olympic pole vault for our multi-discipline, multi-national team-and the Galaxy cleared the bar with room to spare," said Steve Taylor, director of project engineering at Harris Microwave Communications Division (MCD). "With the delivery of this product, we'll reinforce the Harris reputation for world class service in the international telecommunications market."

The Galaxy boasts a wide array of superlative features, including all-outdoor implementation for STS-3/OC-3/STM-1, longer paths with high availability, open network management for easy integration within heterogeneous networks, and a wireless craft interface for remote monitoring and control.
