Pre-Civil War Buildings Now House 21st Century Trapeze Networks Wireless LAN

Pleasanton, CA - Trapeze Networks wireless LAN gear has been meticulously installed into the historic 156-year-old campus of the Institute of Notre Dame (IND), an all-girls private high school in Baltimore, Maryland. With the final phase of IND's wireless remodeling complete, the wireless campus now lets students and faculty access the Internet and online educational sources to better prepare each student's potential in the digital age.

Trapeze, along with Maryland-based Jaguar Technology, embraced the challenge and successfully configured the technology to work within a building constructed with 16-inch thick plaster-and-brick walls, all the while maintaining the school's architectural integrity. The installation, which only took two weeks to complete, includes 40 access points and covers more than 175,000 square feet of building plus additional outdoor areas.

"We are living in a wireless society and we recognized that it has forever changed the learning environment," said Fred Germano, director of technology at the Institute of Notre Dame. "To ready our students for college and beyond, it was essential to equip them with a wireless environment. Trapeze walks us into the wireless world by providing the best options and solutions for the technology demands of our school. Trapeze met our challenge and has outperformed our expectations."

Easy-to-Maintain, Reliable and Secure WLAN

The key to the deployment at IND was the award-winning RingMaster WLAN management suite that helps design an error-free wireless service. Combined with the Trapeze MX-200 Mobility Exchange intelligent WLAN controller platform, the solution gives the school unparalleled remote management and an enterprise-level of security. By performing a Virtual Site Survey™, RingMaster automated coverage, capacity and voice planning for indoor and outdoor areas.

"We are now able to integrate technology across the curriculum, creating a learning environment that is more individualized and tailored to each student's needs," said Germano. "Our students' education is more engaging and a more authentic representation of the real world of college, career and life."
