Web site instructs users about text messaging

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) and four main network operators BT Cellnet, One2One, Orange, and Vodafone are heading the Text It campaign. They are giving mobile phone users new to sending text messages the opportunity to "test text" the technique on the text.it Web site. The companies have launched "Try out texting" on the text messaging site www.text.it. This feature sends one of a range of messages from the Web site to any phone (notes include Good Luck and Happy Birthday).

The site also provides instructions on how to send and receive text messages from a wide range of mobiles and there are more than 50 acronyms for faster and funnier messaging. A competition to find the best texting story has been launched on the site. The winner will receive a jet skiing experience.

The MDA was established in 1994 to increase awareness of mobile data among users and their advisers. The MDA acts as a focal point for its members and outside parties interested in knowing more about the industry. With more than 50 members, the MDA actively seeks to promote understanding about mobile data and its applications to a range of audiences including prospective customers, VARs, and system integrators. It also provides an informal forum for its members to communicate with Government Bodies including the DTI, the Radiocommunications Agency and Oftel.
