Vodafone launches message-cam device in time for holiday sales

Already angling for those holiday sales, UK mobile phone network operator Vodafone has launched its Message-Cam—a palm top device with a built-in digital camera and full Internet access. The product is designed exclusively for Vodafone by Casio, which signed a joint worldwide development agreement with Vodafone in February. The carrier is hoping the limited-edition Message-Cam will become the most sought-after gift this Christmas.

The carrier is already painting images of consumers being able to take shots of Christmas lunch, New Year celebrations, or a skiing trip and then being able to e-mail them on the spot, along with a few choice words, to their jealous friends.

The Message-Cam comes with a Siemens C35i WAP phone and data cable, and the package will be available through Vodafone stores nationwide and is expected to cost GBP349.99. Customers buying the product will need to sign up to one of Vodafone's new pay-monthly price plans. Although the in-built digital camera and full Internet access sets it apart from other palm tops, it also boasts a host of other features including:

  • Color touch-sensitive screen
  • Sound and photo album
  • Voice recorder
  • WAP browsing capabilities
  • Icon gallery Clock, calendar and calculator
