The iSurfMDU is the entry-level member of the iSurf Family that is designed for Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) network service providers to provision and guarantee Internet access services to their customers in residential and commercial properties. Traffic shaping and Class-Based Queuing optimize the leased lines (DS1/DS3s) connecting your customers to your POPs.

The centralized management feature enables multiple units to be located in different physical locations, yet be controlled and provisioned from any place in the network using a Java network application. This allows the Network Service Provider (NSP) to deploy the service management solution throughout their network as new buildings are brought on line, yet maintain one central point of management. Setup of a service management solution at property locations is done by assigning an IP address and deploying to the next location. Additional properties in remote locations can be brought on line through a hardware installation.

Adding new subscribers to the IP service management solution is done through the GUI. Default subscriber service policies are part of the standard configuration shipped and additional policies can be added to the default levels allowing point and click provisioning. Using a minimal number of default service policies, the provisioning can be done during or shortly after the service order process by non-technical personnel.

The solution can be upgraded to include the data warehousing capability present in the mid-range and high-end of the product line. Additional hardware units can be deployed at the site if the need for user addresses exceed 5,000. The solution was designed without dependence on an operating system or hard disk drive. This design increases performance allowing "wire speed" in a 100 Mbps Ethernet environment at full-duplex mode as well as increased mean time between failures.
