Aether Systems Signs Wireless Mobile Data Contracts With Sheriffs Offices in Oklahoma and Tennessee Sheriffs Offices Plan to Link Mobile Government Communication System With Neighboring Towns and Cities
Aether Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless data products and services, has announced that Sheriffs Offices in the states of Oklahoma and Tennessee have purchased the company's flagship mobile law enforcement product, PacketCluster(R) Patrol(TM). The Sheriffs Offices plan to use the wireless data system to mobilize their own departments as well as to share information with other county agencies and area Police Departments.
"Sheriffs Offices are often responsible for public safety across entire counties, and need to coordinate their efforts with other agencies. PacketCluster(R) Patrol provides these Sheriffs Offices with the ability to share essential law enforcement information in real-time with neighboring agencies and jurisdictions," said Dave Rosi, Vice President, Mobile Government division, Aether Systems. "By using Aether's mobile law enforcement product, forward thinking departments such as Oklahoma County and Knox County are positioning themselves at the forefront of the mobile government movement."
Officers will use PacketCluster to broadcast key announcements across a county's entire wireless data network. For example, if a child is missing in one department's jurisdiction, a description of the child is broadcast to agencies across the county so that all officers are on the lookout for the child.
If one jurisdiction has the description of a suspect fleeing the scene of a robbery, an officer can silently communicate that description to other departments so that the information cannot be heard over radio scanners.
Oklahoma County
The Oklahoma County Sheriffs Office in Oklahoma City, Ok., looked to Aether's wireless data solution to mobilize its department. Once the system is deployed, Oklahoma County anticipates using it for regional disaster coordination and many messaging functions.
Real-time critical information can be sent from car-to-car to Oklahoma County deputies and to officers in surrounding agencies. Oklahoma County anticipates that Aether's wireless data solution will continue to incorporate future technology.
"In the future, we'd like to link our system to the neighboring cities of Norman and Edmond as well as other agencies in the metropolitan Oklahoma City area," said Sheriff John Whetsel. "Once all systems are connected, we'll be able to coordinate our efforts and resource deployment during regional disasters and any other emergency situations."
Knox County
The Knox County Sheriffs Office, located in Tennessee, replaced its previous mobile information system with Aether's PacketCluster Patrol. Aether's product will allow Knox County to share information with both the City of Knoxville's Police Department and neighboring Blount County Sheriffs Office.
"Aether's ability to provide connectivity between Knox County and several surrounding agencies and its reasonable cost and overall value made it the right choice for us," said Knox County Sheriff Tim Hutchison. "The open architecture of the PacketCluster products leaves the door open for us to incorporate future technologies such as barcode readers and digital imaging. When you couple the product quality with the support we received from Aether, the choice was clear."
