Bell Mobility Launches New Offerings for its Mobile Browser Service

Moving ahead in the wireless Internet space, Bell Mobility (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) has made agreements with both Yahoo! Canada and Getthere.com, adding to the types of information its subscribers can access through the Mobile Browser service.

Through the Yahoo! Canada agreement, customers can send and receive e-mail, access their schedules, and receive the sports scores from their favorite teams from their Digital PCS phones. By launching the browser on their phones and selecting Yahoo! from the main menu on the Mobile Browser home page, then they can wirelessly access a range of Yahoo! Canada services, including: e-mail, address book and calendar information, plus customized news, sports, finance, and weather updates. The services will be available in French on the Mobile Browser later this year.

The partnership with Getthere.com allows users to access travel services, which include flight status, schedules, and other detailed information, from their phones. Under the alliance, GetThere.com, which provides Internet travel booking systems for leading airlines, corporations, and e-commerce sites, is providing access to its booking system, called GetThere Exchange, through its Mobile Manager technology. Mobile Manager is an interface between the GetThere Exchange and mobile phones.

Since Bell Mobility launched its Mobile Browser in May 1999, users have been able to access and view a number of Internet sites specially adapted for small display screens, including sympatico.ca, Charles Schwab, i/money, TD Waterhouse, VeeV from Bank of Montreal, canada.com, canoe.ca, and Web 411.

The service is currently available with several Bell Mobility phones, including the NeoPoint 1000 and Qualcomm's QCP-2700F, QCP-2700 and QCP-2760. The Nokia 6185 will soon be Mobile Browser-enabled, and new phones such as Motorola's Digital StarTAC and Samsung's SCH-3530, will be ".com-ready" at introduction.
