Orlando, FL-based Triton Network Systems Inc. has entered into a three-year master purchase agreement with Monroe, LA-based CenturyTel Inc. to supply Invisible Fiber OC-3 radios for build-out of wireless Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) ring consecutive-point networks in 36 markets where CenturyTel holds LMDS licenses.

The products will enable CenturyTel to build a wireless SONET OC-3 ring consecutive-point network to complement its existing fiber backbone and reach customers who are currently unable to connect to the network. The initial deployment will extend the fiber optic backbone in its Michigan markets. CenturyTel will also deploy the products in consecutive point networks within the 28 GHz and 31 GHz licensed spectrum it acquired in the LMDS auctions.

The carrier cites the ability to deploy 155 Mbps SONET ring OC-3 capacity using one 50 MHz channel as a determining factor in its selection of Triton as its supplier of broadband fixed wireless equipment. This order represents a major milestone for the equipment provider and demonstrates the fast-growing acceptance of consecutive point network topology within the communications business sector.
