Provides Telecom Engineers With New Cost-Effective, Targeted Solutions

Gaithersburg, Md. - January 28, 2002 - Today at ComNet, GL Communications Inc. announced five new innovative products for the telecommunications market. These test and analysis products are designed to meet customer requirements for technical solutions that support effective, productive networks. GL Communications is a leading provider of PC-based telecommunications test, analysis and simulation products.

"We are committed to designing and offering technical solutions that provide exactly what customers need to solve their network problems," said Vijay Kulkarni, president and CTO of GL Communications. "We leverage our years of hands-on experience in the telecommunications marketplace to continuously offer easily-adapted modules that satisfy customer requirements as their networks grow and change."

The new products GL Communications is offering include:

Network Surveyor
As network surveillance becomes increasingly important performance, security, fraud detection, alarm monitoring, billing verification, remote protocol analysis, failure prediction, and traffic engineering must be monitored continuously. A network operator, service provider or equipment manufacturer needs to have the means to perform these surveillance tasks cost-effectively, remotely, automatically, and non-intrusively. The GL Net Surveyor uses an open, three-tier, distributed architecture driven by non-intrusive hardware probes, intelligent software, and a database engine. The architecture consists of a scalable and flexible system, so the user can use it for multiple sites and various applications. T1/E1/T3 Probes are deployed in the field to monitor various protocols and conditions, which are then collected at a central site into a database. Data records are stored in a relational database (Oracle, DB2, Sybase, Microsoft Access, etc.) using ODBC. Various Client applications can be written (in VB, Power Builder, etc.) to interrogate database records and provide a user-friendly interface for query and display.

Analog Test Set With Voice Quality Assessment
Providing clear, uninterrupted voice is critical, irrespective of what type of network is carrying the voice. GL's Analog Test Set (ATS) with Voice Quality Assessment (VQA) provides the analog, two-wire interface (RJ-11) along with the voice quality measurement and analysis tools required to assure clear voice. Typical network applications include VoIP, PSTN, ATM, frame relay and wireless networks. GL's VQA utilizes the widely respected PAMS, PSQM and PESQ algorithms, simultaneously.

Digital Central Office Switch Simulator And Bulk Call Generator (DCOSS) Version 4.3
GL's DCOSS Version 4.3 upgrades and enhances several major areas, including support for up to 16 digital trunks and 48 analog telephones. DCOSS performs load testing using real-time fax calls, modem traffic and voice files and provides quality testing for each. DCOSS routing capabilities include phone routing and switch routing. The DCOSS Switch Routing solution is unique in offering routing capabilities that allow the DCOSS to act as a true central office switch that can accept a call from one protocol, i.e. ISDN, and switch the call out using a different protocol, i.e. SS7. GL's VQT is accomplished using PAMS, PSQM and PESQ standards. Remote access capability is achieved via Client/Server architecture. T1 CAS, GR-303, SS7 enhanced to include TCAP functionality, SS5, R1 and 18 types of R2 are supported.

GR-303 Protocol Analyzer
GL's GR-303 Protocol Analyzer software has a flexible, easy-to-use, intuitive user interface, allowing customers to be up and running very quickly. Layer 3+ Filtering and Search can isolate specific frames from all other frames in real-time or offline. The Capture feature, limited only by the size of the hard disk, includes a playback option. The distributed architecture allows multiple protocol and analyzer probes to be connected together to a central, relational database using ODBC, and an Export feature allows easy data exchange to desktop applications for further analysis. Multiple T1/E1s, n X 64 kbps and sub-DSO data rates are supported.

SA Bits Protocol Analyzer
The SA Bits Protocol Analyzer performs HDLC analysis on E1 time slot 0, in real time and off line, using saved files. The real-time mode of operation is used to capture a stream of HDLC frames on the selected even or odd frames of the E1 multi-frame on time slot 0. Captured information can be saved to disk for later off-line analysis. Both real-time and off-line analysis present a summary view and a detailed view of HDLC decode information.
