Harris Selected by CFW for Network Management Consolidation

Waynesboro, VA-based CFW Communications Co. (doing business as Intelos), a diversified integrated communications provider (ICP) serving business and residential customers in Virginia and West Virginia, has chosen Melbourne, FL-based Harris Corp.'s network management (HNM) platform to consolidate network management functions company-wide. CFW will use HNM to centralize network monitoring for its wireline, wireless, Internet, and cable services networks to reduce costs associated with its current on-site dispatch activity and field operations.

CFW Communication's mission is to be the region's single-source provider of integrated communication services, including local, long distance, PCS, and Internet, along with a large portfolio of voice and data networking services. The diverse elements in its network and its increasing network support costs prompted CFW to seek a single network management solution.

HNM is designed to manage complex, multiprotocol, multivendor telecommunications infrastructures. In the initial deployment, CFW will use HNM's core network management module; the extended network manager (ENM) module to enable communication with virtually any third-party equipment or system; and the simple network management protocol (SNMP) module to manage devices equipped with an SNMP agent, such as routers, servers, and ATM elements. The company will also deploy the new Harris ISP Manager to manage its increasing Internet activity.

Harris Network Management is provided by Harris' Communications Products Division (CPD), which delivers solutions to public and private communications service providers around the world. CPD's solutions include call centers, network switching and enhanced services products, line test and network management systems, as well as test sets and tools.
