Jetcell, Cisco Combine Capabilities

Interoperability between Menlo Park, CA-based JetCell Inc.'s wireless/Internet product and Cisco Systems' IP telephony solutions within San Jose, CA-based Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data) will speed delivery of Internet wireless office. The combined capabilities of ViperCell and Cisco AVVID's packet telephony-enabled routers and gateways will make it possible for wireless carriers to provide GSM/Internet wireless office to corporations using standard GSM/PCS/DCS mobile devices deployed across LANs.

For operators, the pre-integrated and pre-tested wireless office system eliminates risk and ensures low maintenance. For enterprise customers, this solution lowers cost and dramatically improves employee productivity.

The two companies have been conducting interoperability testing using VoIP, as well as other standard ITU-T and IETF protocols, to deliver wireless office VoIP connectivity. JetCell has been working with GSM, PCS, and cellular carriers to define a new breed of wireless office products that take advantage of Cisco's end-to-end enterprise solutions. With Cisco AVVID VoIP gateways, ViperCell supports standard connectivity to legacy PBX, PSTN/ISDN, and LAN networks, enabling corporate users to roam between their corporate network locations or onto the public network maintaining wireless connectivity to their communications and information systems.
