Leap Wireless Awards Glenayre Multi-Million Dollar Contract For Versera ICE Nationwide Deployment

Atlanta -- Glenayre Messaging, a division of Glenayre Technologies, Inc. announced that Leap Wireless International, Inc. has awarded the Company a multi-million dollar contract. Cricket, an operating subsidiary of Leap that provides mobile wireless services, will be using Glenayre's Versera Intelligent Communications Environment (Versera ICE) as its messaging solution.

Versera ICE will integrate with Cricket's VoIP network and provide subscribers with voice mail and other Versera applications.

"We first selected Glenayre in 1999 for messaging applications, so when we started looking for a next generation technology that would permit us to quickly deploy applications in an open and IP enabled environment, Glenayre was a natural contender," said Glenn Umetsu, Chief Technical Officer of Leap. "The team at Glenayre was able to demonstrate how Versera ICE would help us to grow our network cost-effectively while enabling us to deliver a solid selection of innovative messaging applications."

By using Versera ICE in their VoIP network implementation, Cricket will be able to consolidate its network operations into two hubs. In addition, the system will include voice mail database replication, which prevents the loss of subscriber voice mails should a catastrophic event occur at either Cricket hub.

"Cricket has been an innovative carrier since the day Leap launched its services," said Bruce Bales, president of Glenayre Messaging. "It's exciting to have a customer willing to join you at the leading edge of the delivery of next-generation services and applications. The results generated by combining such an advanced CDMA network with Versera ICE will likely cause other carriers to give serious thought to how they might be able to better optimize their own networks."
