Metricom Requests Additional Services from General Dynamics

General Dynamics Worldwide Telecommunication Systems (Falls Church, VA), a business unit of General Dynamics, has signed an agreement with Metricom Inc. (Los Gatos, CA) to provide architectural and engineering services in support of the company's deployment of its Ricochet 128 kbps mobile wireless data service in key United States markets.

This is an expansion of the services that General Dynamics provides to Metricom, which also includes project management, site acquisition, construction management, site construction, and equipment installation and testing to support local Wired Access Points (WAPs) deployment. WAPs are the central points of connection between Ricochet local wireless networks and the local wireline and national Internet backbone networks. Through this new assignment, the company will provide architectural and engineering services to support site acquisition, zoning, and construction of new network sites, as well as as-built drawing.

Additional services may include photo simulations, foundation designs, structural analysis of existing towers and buildings, soils testing, and surveys. With the expanded services encompassed by the new assignment, General Dynamics now supports Metricom in six key markets: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Kansas City, MO; Miami, FL; St. Louis, MO, and Salt Lake City, UT.
