Shandong Mobile Communications Corporation (MCC) has awarded Motorola Inc.'s Network Solutions Sector (NSS; Arlington Heights, IL) a new $14.5 million GSM 1800 network in Shandong Province. Under the terms of the contract, Motorola NSS will deploy the GSM 1800 network in four major cities in the province. Deployment of the GSM 1800 infrastructure equipment is scheduled for May. Upon completion in mid-year, the network will be able to serve 150,000 subscribers.
Shandong MCC's relationship with Motorola dates back to 1990 when an analog network was installed. In 1998, Motorola NSS installed a GSM 900 microcellular network in some Shandong MCC's major cities. Besides Shandong, Motorola NSS has supplied GSM 1800 networks to seven other provinces and municipalities in China, including Jilin, Liaoning, Shanxi, Hunan, Tianjin, Anhui, and Beijing.
