Managed security services firm Simpler-Webb uses the Cisco Incident Control System to rapidly respond to emerging worm and virus threats — before they can infect customer networks.

Simpler-Webb security services are based on the extensive knowledge of the firm's expert technicians and analysts, supported by a variety of security technologies from Cisco Systems®. The firm has long used Cisco® Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) sensors, Cisco Security Agent, Cisco PIX® security appliances, and the security features embedded within the Cisco IOS® Software in Cisco routers and switches to provide customers with layered, pervasive protection. Now, Simpler-Webb is implementing a new Cisco security solution that will allow the company to more quickly react to newly identified threats and better safeguard customer networks.

The Cisco Incident Control System (ICS) provides Simpler-Webb with an extremely rapid response to new virus or worm outbreaks. Developed in a partnership between Cisco and Trend Micro, the Cisco ICS solution maintains a direct link to Trend Micro's TrendLabs, through which it obtains the earliest warnings about new threats from malicious software, as well as policies for rapidly mitigating those threats. The solution can be configured to automatically issue policies to Cisco network devices, allowing them to become distributed mitigation points for blocking the attack. As a managed security services provider, Simpler-Webb immediately recognized the value that Cisco ICS could provide to its customers, and became one of the first organizations to pilot the solution.
