Powertel Customers Can View and Pay Phone Bills Online

West Point, GA-based Powertel Inc. has taken the next step in bill resolution. The carrier now is making it possible for customers to check their bills and pay them on-line by going to the company's Web site.

The on-line payment option is in the "online services" section of the Web site and allows the customer to pay bills either by check or credit card. Customers also are able to view their last three bills, including call record detail. Payments made by 2 p.m. would be posted by midnight the same day.

The system accepts MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and America Express cards. Payment by check authorizes an automatic withdrawal from the customer's checking account, and Powertel sends a hard-copy check to the customer's financial institution.

Numerous safeguards are built into the system to protect against fraud. Prompts at the online payment option direct the customer through the process of opening an online payment account and then paying online.
