Radio Base Station / Software

A new compact Internet base transceiver station and new radio resource management software have been announced. The Compact Internet BTS is designed to address urban and suburban coverage requirements for UMTS operators with limited real estate for cell site deployment. The e-mobility Compact BTS, scheduled for commercial availability beginning in mid-2001, will be able to be plugged into existing transmission racks, providing additional capacity with no increase in floor space.

The Radio Resource Management software will complement the company's e-mobility Internet BTS and core IP network by maximizing spectrum efficiency to deliver the highest capacity available in the industry. In addition to high capacity, e- mobility Radio Resource Management will improve reliability by reducing dropped calls, which can increase operator revenues and improve subscriber loyalty. The software will support GSM, CDMA and UMTS standards. A self-tuning solution, it will manage Quality of Service according to network load, maximizing subscriber capacity while reducing operational expenses.
