RedSeal Upgrades SRM To Help Identify Hidden Threats In Wireless Network Deployments
"The proliferation of wireless networks supporting roaming workers, guests, and transient users requires a number of new measures to identify and shut down vulnerabilities before security breaches can occur. Increasingly stringent compliance regulations combined with the growing number of security threats add pressure on enterprises to get the most out of existing security safeguards," said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. "The ability to quickly detect and mitigate network vulnerabilities is becoming imperative for enterprises to effectively utilize these security investments. With the new features in RedSeal SRM 2.1, companies can take a more proactive approach to managing risk."
New capabilities in RedSeal SRM v2.1 can identify all threats and exploit holes to business assets that start at any level of a wireless network. While enterprises have traditionally focused on protecting the wireless network data transmission using encryption or by limiting access to the network through authentication, RedSeal SRM goes beyond these measures and identifies what paths are available from the wireless networks into an enterprise's internal network infrastructure. Resulting reports can also show configuration errors and vulnerabilities associated with these paths, and show remediation methods to manage and minimize these risks.
New features in RedSeal SRM 2.1 include:
- Wireless Network Modeling – Ensures wireless networks are managed securely, and proactively identifies and remediates any potential threats that could originate from a wireless network.
- VPN Modeling – Identifies VPN connections in the network so that traffic through this class of devices can be incorporated into the threat analysis, easily extending risk management to remote offices and partner sites including extranets.
- Threat Detection for Load-Balanced Servers – Identifies security risks facing load-balanced servers, ensuring service availability and maintaining compliance.
- Visual Network Path Explorer – Provides the ability to easily view and understand the rule sets on network devices, ensuring that rule sets are accurately and securely configured, and in compliance with all internal or external regulations. This capability instantly highlights open access paths in the infrastructure, reducing the time to respond to the continuous barrage of issues.
- Tracking & Alerts – Tracks changes to the enterprise's security posture, quickly highlighting which new vulnerabilities have the biggest impact on overall security, as well as which changes measurably weakened the defenses.
- Redundant Rule Check – Identifies redundant rules to improve performance, simplify rule sets, and eliminate potential security holes.
"With most wireless networks connected well behind the firewall, enterprises have to address a broad new set of security threats," said Mike Lloyd, Chief Scientist at RedSeal Systems. "RedSeal SRM 2.1 pinpoints the threats that wireless networks open up, and automatically prioritizes remediation steps so that risk is minimized."
About RedSeal Security Risk Manager (SRM)
RedSeal provides security risk management solutions that give instant visibility into the threats that leave an open door to valuable company resources. RedSeal Security Risk Manager (SRM) maps the entire infrastructure, measures its relevant risk, and mitigates its exposure.
- Maps: RedSeal SRM automatically audits your entire network infrastructure including all network resources, security devices and hosts to compile an end-to-end and up-to-date map of these resources and their relationships
- Measures: RedSeal SRM pinpoints which assets are exposed then assigns a risk value for meaningful measurement
- Mitigates: RedSeal SRM prioritizes vulnerabilities that you need to find-and-fix before an exploit so you can mitigate your risk profiles and focus on the most important assets first
