EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- June 9, 2003 -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (AWR™), a leading provider of high-frequency electronic design automation (EDA) tools, today announced that REMEC, Inc., a leading manufacturer of wireless telecommunications equipment, has signed a global licensing agreement to deploy AWR's Microwave Office™ and Visual System Simulator™ EDA software suites on a worldwide basis. The adoption of AWR EDA software supports REMEC's continuous efforts to manage the substantial challenges of today's wireless design technology.

Under the terms of this agreement REMEC will be deploying AWR software to the Defense & Space and Commercial Business Groups, which together comprise more than 15 facilities located across North America, Europe, and Asia. AWR technology will be used for a full range of radio frequency (RF) products for wireless network base stations and integrated RF solutions. Applications include: point-to-point radios, LMDS and MMDS point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless access systems, low-cost satellite ground terminals, RF power amplifiers, and microwave products for space, electronic warfare, RADAR, missile, and communications/navigation systems.

"The AWR platform enhances engineering productivity and reduces development costs," said Denny Morgan, REMEC's senior vice president and chief engineer. "AWR's solutions have improved technology and ease-of-use over legacy tools in a number of applications."

"REMEC is an industry leader that aligns with AWR's core product focus," said Ted Miracco, AWR's executive vice president. "Our relationship with REMEC will provide us with new challenges to refine and improve our technology by addressing the engineering requirements of the REMEC product development groups."

Microwave Office design suite is the foundation upon which AWR has built its innovative product architecture and open system platform. Microwave Office 2003 software offers enhanced simulation, layout, and EM analysis tools along with a dramatically improved harmonic balance simulator, new time-domain simulation engines, and an EM Socket™ interface. The solution provides a superior product development process for the design of wireless and high-speed wired applications by reducing risk, improving simulation capabilities, and closing the verification loop with links to test and measurement instruments.

Visual System Simulator (VSS) is a comprehensive software suite for the design of complete, end-to-end communications systems. VSS technology uses a complex envelope simulation engine that enables systems and circuit designers to work together within a common simulation framework to perform interactive, top-down analysis of analog and digital communications systems and RF sub-systems. VSS, with its core algorithmic advantages, provides an extremely fast simulation engine that reduces overhead and eliminates simulation bottlenecks, speeding designs to implementation.
