SCC Launches 911 Access System for Telecom Providers
SCC's new solution includes two specific service offerings:
- In cooperation with SCC's partners and suppliers, the deployment of a national voice and data network overlay to deliver emergency calls throughout the country
- Activation of a nationwide 911 call-routing data server that provides high-speed spatial routing determination to enable the delivery of emergency calls to the correct jurisdiction.
Today's 911 systems were deployed in local and regional segments, many of which are unable to accept or initiate call transfers outside their region. With the growing complexity of the nation's communication infrastructure, this inability to deliver calls and the associated emergency response data beyond local or regional service boundaries poses a significant challenge to carriers and service providers.
SCC's 911 Safety Net is designed to:
- Process thousands of boundary updates and new addresses daily
- Integrate properly with all of the traditional telecommunication ILEC 911 systems and interfaces
- Provide high-speed delivery of voice, including automatic call routing without human intervention
- Provide real-time spatial routing support on a national basis for non-street addresses (e.g., in the middle of the wilderness).
The system clears the way for national carriers to simplify their voice and data interface to the nation's 911 infrastructure. It will serve as a universal translator allowing users of more advanced telecommunications technology to communicate with the remaining older components of the U.S. 911 infrastructure without a broad collection of local switch patches or protocol conversion.
