The main purpose of a tower top amplifier is to amplify the receive (uplink) signal before the long cable drop from the tower top, resulting in a substantial increase in receive sensitivity and overall coverage. SMARTop Tower Top amplifiers (TTAs) accomplish this by using a highly advanced, balanced, single-stage low noise amplifier (LNA). The LNA gain is field adjustable, so the device may be easily used in existing networks.
SMARTop Masthead Units (MHUs) amplify the receive signal of a mobile communications system, and provide the required RF filtering and LNA alarming functions. MHUs are placed at the tower top next to the antenna. Alarm indication is communicated digitally from the MHU to the Base Unit/Power Distribution Unit located in the base station at the bottom of the tower.
ADC's SMARTop product offering includes tower top amplifiers for the following frequency ranges: 450 MHz 800 MHz 800 MHz SMR/ESMR 900 MHz 1800 MHz 1900 MHz MHU Accessory Kits
