SpeechWorks reports 237% increase in revenues for Q3
In the first nine months of 2000, SpeechWorks expanded its international presence, now accounting for 14% of the company's worldwide revenue.
Product license revenues for the third quarter of 2000 grew 562% to $4.9 million from $0.7 million for the same period last year, and represented 56% of total Q3 2000 revenues compared to 29% in the third quarter of last year. For the nine-month period ended September 30, 2000, product license revenues totaled $10.2 million, a 381% increase over the same period in 1999, and represented 52% of total revenues, compared to 22% during the first nine months of 1999.
Professional services revenue for the third quarter of 2000 increased 138% to $3.1 million, from $1.3 million in the third quarter of last year, and represented 36% of total Q3 2000 revenues compared to 51% in the same period last year. For the nine-month period ended September 30, 2000, professional services revenue totaled $7.6 million, an 89% increase from $4.0 million in the same period in 1999, and represented 39% and 42% of total revenues for the nine months ended September 30, 2000 and 1999, respectively.
Other revenue, which includes the resale of hardware products and facilities management services, increased to $0.7 million in the third quarter of 2000, from $0.5 million in the third quarter of 1999. Consistent with the Company's plan, other revenue represented 8% of total revenues in Q3 2000, down from 20% in Q3 1999. For the nine months ended September 30, 2000 other revenue totaled $1.9 million, or 10% of total revenue, compared to $3.5 million, or 36% of total revenue, for the nine months ended September 30, 1999.
For the three months ended September 30, 2000, the pro forma net loss, excluding non-cash charges related to stock compensation and amortization of acquired intellectual property and collaborative rights, was $5.4 million, or $0.20 per share on a pro forma basis, compared to $3.7 million, or $0.19 per share on a pro forma basis, for the three months ended September 30, 1999. For the nine-month period ended September 30, 2000, the pro forma net loss, excluding the same non-cash charges, totaled $17.7 million, or $0.76 per share on a pro forma basis, compared to $8.7 million, or $0.51 per share on a pro forma basis, in the same period in 1999.
The net loss for the quarter was $8.0 million, or $0.29 per share on a pro forma basis, compared to a net loss of $3.8 million, or $0.20 per share on a pro forma basis, for the third quarter last year. For the nine-month period ended September 30, 2000, the net loss totaled $21.3 million, or $0.92 per share on a pro forma basis, compared to $8.9 million, or $0.52 per share on a pro forma basis, for the same period in 1999.
