SSH Certificate Tools

Tools for building trust

The next generation of authentication is built on trust, where trust of relations or trust policy forms a basis for certificate based authentication and authorization. Authentication is the key initial step taken in establishing a secure communication channel. Without the secure authentication of parties, secure communication has little meaning. Many different methods for authentication exist, certificates is one of the best.

The SSH X.509 Certificate Tools is a certificate processing library for applications that need strong, cryptographic authentication. It provides a full set of features required to attach a security aware application into a Public Key Infrastructure, a system providing authentication services. The SSH X.509 Certificate Tools includes all the necessary components required for checking the validity of a certificate, requesting new certificates, retrieving certificates from Certificate Authority directories, and checking Certificate Revocation Lists.

Third party IPsec implementations and electronic commerce applications are ideal uses for the SSH X.509 Certificate Tools library. The library has been designed to scale to the largest applications and includes features such as certificate caching to maximize efficiency.

The SSH X.509 Certificate Tools has been designed to provide access to all well known Public Key Infrastrustures. Standards compliance assures that the tools are not tied to proprietary solutions which would tie the user to a specific system. The interoperability of the library has been tested against the certificates of all major PKI vendors. SSH Communications Security cooperates actively with these vendors to assure the continuous interoperability.
