T-Mobile Teams Up With Mobilitie To Enhance Wireless Service At The 2016 Kentucky Derby

Un-carrier customers will be part of the digital social frenzy at Churchill Downs

Louisville, KY /PRNewswire/ - T-Mobile customers will be among the 300,000 guests over the course of this year's Kentucky Derby, thanks to Mobilitie's Distributed Antenna System (DAS) that will ensure T-Mobile customers have access to high speed 4G LTE services.

"We won't stop improving LTE service for our customers at large sports and entertainment venues and across the country," said Jennifer Silveira, Vice President of Engineering. "When it comes to mega-events like the Kentucky Derby, T-Mobile customers will be able to tweet, Periscope, Instagram and download with reckless abandon."

"The Kentucky Derby is a social experience unlike any other major sporting event and our partnership with Mobilitie has allowed guests with smartphone service from participating carriers to maintain connectivity and share their onsite experiences in real time," said Ryan Jordan, General Manager of Churchill Downs Racetrack. "Mobile usage increases every year and it's important for us to maximize our network coverage as we seek to advance the guest experience at Churchill Downs, and we're thrilled that T-Mobile customers will be able to utilize our high speed distributed antenna system."

T-Mobile continues to rapidly build out its 4G LTE coverage, having added over 1 million new square miles of LTE in 2015, which now reaches over 308M Americans. By expanding its nationwide Wideband LTE, T-Mobile has remained America's Fastest 4G LTE network for nine straight quarters.

The DAS installation at Churchill Downs consists of multiple strategically placed antennas that distribute T-Mobile's wireless network coverage throughout the entire 5.1 million square foot venue, including the clubhouse, parking lots and infield. The multiple antenna arrangement helps the network manage wireless capacity in heavily-trafficked areas, bringing better and more consistent wireless coverage to customers in both the indoor and outdoor spaces.

"The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs is the busiest sporting event of the year, with hundreds of thousands of guests coming into the venue over the course of the weekend. Our partnership with Churchill Downs is the pinnacle of how technology can change how people interact and experience these events," said Christos Karmis, President of Mobilitie, which built, owns and currently operates the neutral host DAS. "We're confident that visitors to the Derby will be thrilled with the enhanced wireless experience."
