Tekelec to provide STPs and flexible numbering for MobiNil's network

Calabasas, CA-based Tekelec has signed a multi-million-dollar contract with MobiNil, the Egyptian subsidiary of France Telecom and Egypt's largest GSM operator. The purchase includes Tekelec's EAGLE signal transfer points (STPs) and G-Flex, the company's flexible numbering solution for home location registers (HLRs).

"Meeting the demands created by the explosive growth in GSM networks requires flexible solutions that deliver scalable capacity and efficient resource utilization," said Osman Sultan, president and MobiNil CEO. "MobiNil is systematically improving, upgrading and enhancing Egypt's existing mobile telephone system to provide more and better services for its customers.
Tekelec's signaling platform delivers not only the capacity to position MobiNil's network for future growth but also the connectivity to support the delivery of next-generation services."

MobiNil has ordered a complete signaling solution including network integration, training, and project management, said David Colbeck, managing director Tekelec and vice president for Europe states. "This network will be supported from our recently opened European Customer Support Center in the UK," he said. "Our European headquarters in Staines positions us to provide the highest level of support and service to our European and African clientele."

G-Flex, Tekelec's flexible numbering solution, uses a common database integrated into the EAGLE platform. It facilitates the efficient management of number allocation in MobiNil's HLRs. The product will enable MobiNil to rebalance its database loads dynamically to meet changing network needs and fully utilize the capacity of its HLRs. The EAGLE STP pair with G-Flex will be brought into service in the third quarter of 2000.
