Terra Mobile, Digital Island partner to improve GPRS delivery to wireless devices

Together the two companies will enable fast, reliable and high-speed delivery of wireless content for mobile handheld devices.
Under the terms of the agreement, Digital Island will deploy its Footprint Content Delivery Network into Terra Mobile's GPRS services to help build a next-generation test bed to improve the performance and delivery of end user applications. The combination of the two company's technologies will help deliver content to the GPRS network in the most efficient way possible, minimizing Internet latency and maximizing bandwidth across the Internet, and ensuring end-users consistently have the best wireless Web experience possible.
The two companies will test wireless content and services on GPRS devices including GPRS mobile phones and GPRS-enabled PDA's or personal digital assistants. Terra Mobile will test GPRS multimedia applications including digital music and video downloads, WAP content, location-based services and wireless gaming offerings. In doing so, the company will be well positioned to take advantage of the GPRS networks as they are deployed across Europe.
Eliseo Sanchez, CEO of Terra Mobile said, "We think this deal is the first of its kind in the wireless sector. Although content delivery is used extensively with the Internet, we believe that we have the first mover advantage with bringing content delivery into GPRS networks. We are very cognizant of the need to not only deliver compelling customer services but also to support this with a solid service provision infrastructure. This will be even more important in the emerging 2.5G environments. We see Digital Island playing a key role in helping us to achieve these goals."
"This agreement allows us to offer our e-Business Delivery Network services through the industry's latest and most advanced wireless networks," said Tim Wilson, chief marketing officer, Digital Island. "This is a perfect match for both companies, and is enabling Digital Island to lead the way in the wireless movement in helping deliver a faster, more relevant and consistent end-user experience."
Terra Mobile's wireless infrastructure enables the delivery of a wide range of m-commerce and wireless information services including financial information, road and traffic information with commuter itineraries, city guides, entertainment, chat and alerts for new, client-specific content. Digital Island is uniquely positioned to enable enhanced media and entertainment, and financial services transactions in addition to other information-based wireless Web interactions through improving the end-user experience with its industry-leading Footprint Content Delivery Network technology.
Digital Island's Footprint Content Delivery Network improves performance by moving content closer to the end-user. Footprint's proprietary technology ensures content is delivered quickly, consistently and reliably so that end-users are provided with the best viewing experience. In contrast to the other content delivery networks, Digital Island offers a complete, integrated global e-Business solution, supporting all media types, that allow companies to drive e-Business transactions in a secure environment.
