University Of Tennessee At Chattanooga Upgrades To Aruba Networks For Reliable, Interference-Free Wireless Networking

Sunnyvale, CA - Aruba Networks, Inc., a global leader in wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, recently announced that the University of Tennessee has selected and is deploying Aruba's adaptive wireless LAN and secure mobility solution at its Chattanooga campus. Originally founded in 1886 as Chattanooga University, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) today serves 9,000 students on a 101-acre metropolitan campus. The university's legacy single channel network could not be made to work reliably due to interference and issues with security features. Aruba demonstrated that its Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) and identity-based security technology could resolve both issues, and Aruba was awarded the replacement project.

"Before selecting Aruba we brought their system into two buildings in which our legacy network had issues, and the system worked right out of the box," said Robbie Reel, IT Administrator at UTC. "In terms of ease of use, ease of administration, locationing, and captive portal operation Aruba offered a better solution. Aruba also includes built-in features where other suppliers require add-on modules that have to be integrated together. Finally, Aruba's architecture is designed to scale, and that provides peace of mind since we are currently planning a 3x increase in the size of our network."

Aruba's unified mobility solutions deliver networks to users by integrating adaptive WLANs, identity-based security, remote access, and cellular-to-Wi-Fi solutions into a cohesive, high-performance system. ARM technology delivers follow-me connectivity by automating network set-up, survey, and maintenance tasks, and continuously optimizing network performance to support data, toll-quality voice, and streaming video applications. In addition, ARM reliably supports Intel Centrino, Apple Macintosh, and the broad array of wireless PC clients commonly used by employees and contractors, a capability not found in single-channel technologies.

"University campuses are dynamic environments, and wireless networks have to adapt in lock-step if they're to be relied upon as basic infrastructure," said Robert Fenstermacher, Aruba Higher Education Marketing. "Making this happen isn't just a matter of fine tuning radio technology, but also includes management, network analytics, guest access, encryption key management, and so much more. Aruba offers an integrated solution that encompasses all of these elements, and in so doing simplifies network integration and enhances scalability. We were very pleased to have had the opportunity to demonstrate these benefits to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and now to welcome them into our fast growing community of higher education customers."

About Aruba Networks
People move. Networks must follow. Aruba securely delivers networks to users, wherever they work or roam. Our unified mobility solutions include Wi-Fi networks, identity-based security, remote access and cellular services, and centralized multi-vendor network management to enable the Follow-Me Enterprise that moves in lock-step with users:

  • Follow-Me Connectivity: Adaptive 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networks optimize themselves to ensure that users are always within reach of mission-critical information;
  • Follow-Me Security: Identity-based security assigns access policies to users, enforcing those policies whenever and wherever a network is accessed;
  • Follow-Me Applications: Remote access solutions and cellular network integration ensure uninterrupted access to applications as users move;
  • Follow-Me Management: Multi-vendor network management provides a single point of control while managing both legacy and new wireless networks from both Aruba and its competitors.

The cost, convenience, and security benefits of our unified mobility solutions are fundamentally changing how and where we work. Listed on the NASDAQ and Russell 2000 Index, Aruba is based in Sunnyvale, California, and has operations throughout the Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions.
