Parsippany, NJ -- Willtek Communications announced a new handheld product for electromagnetic field (EMF) measurements. The 9102 Handheld Spectrum Analyzer with the 9131 EMF Measurement Option is a test solution that allows network operators, broadcast stations, regulation authorities and engineering offices to test the actual radiation against defined limits; these measurements are stipulated in many countries and applications. Several antennas for different purposes are optionally available. Willtek considers this combination an innovative solution because previous instruments were heavy and bulky or required an additional PC to control the antenna measurements as well as calculate and display results. The analyzer includes all the control and calculation software without the need for an external computer. The Willtek 9102 Handheld Spectrum Analyzer with the 9131 EMF Measurement Option is available immediately.

The 9102 equipped with the 9131 option for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurements can also be used for many other purposes. With its 9130 VSWR/DTF Measurement Option, the 9102 supports many spectrum analysis and network analysis applications such as reflection measurements at antenna systems. On its display, the 9102 can indicate the electromagnetic field measurement in volts per meter (V/m) and in watts per square meter (W/m²) over a frequency range from 100 kHz to 4 GHz.

Wireless network and broadcast station operators can measure the field strength of a new base station or radio tower. The measurement can be used as a proof to the regulatory body that the radiation of the installed transmitter falls below the specified limits. It can also be used to re-assure the sensitized public that the exposure to radiation is far below national limits or recommendations set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

Willtek offers antennas for use with the 9102 in different applications. Interfering transmitters can be identified and located with the help of directional antennas; Willtek's antennas cover emission measurements from 80 to 3000 MHz. The strength of electromagnetic fields can be measured with the help of biconical or isotropic antennas. Willtek's 9171 Isotropic Antenna stores individual calibration data that are automatically read and used by the 9102; the analyzer controls the six antenna elements and sums up the results without additional help from the user or an additional computer.

An online seminar will show typical applications and the operation of the 9102 with the 9131 EMF Measurement Option. This free, web-based training will be held on December 1.
